Food storage planning

Really been trying to get my act together regarding food storage for the last few weeks. My head has been swimming with learning about canning versus storing in buckets, etc. etc.

Finally I realized, a good place to start would be to just make a plan of what we need/should have, and start executing on it. I think that until you get a plan together of what you actually want to accomplish, it's easy to do food storage a bit like a chicken with its head cut off.

So, if anyone else is in that same boat and needs help getting started on making a plan, here are some useful links I've found:

Short, helpful guide that will lead you through analyzing what you currently eat & using that to figure out what to purchase & store.

Nice general overview. I especially like his idea of listing out all the different emergencies, etc. you want to be prepared for and how long you'd be without food in such a situation. Then you order your list, and begin preparing for the situation with the shortest time span, progressing until you've got all your bases covered. Gives you some mini-goals to aim for along the way. Plus, I think it's very important to do some hard thinking about what specifically you're trying to prepare for, instead of just some generalized, amorphous dread that TS is going THTF.

Quite a few short articles and links on this site, from the Mormon perspective.

Nice outline of estimated needs for 1 adult for 1 year. Also has a suggested weekly plan for purchasing everything over the course of a year.

Other helpful links on this site too.
